Mozilla ripensa parzialmente la sua decisione di non fare build a 64bit. Ora rimarranno solo le nightly:

Mozilla Brings Back Firefox 64-bit for Windows

As such, he has decided on the following modifications to his original plan (which was to stop building win64 nightlies and bring existing win64 nightly onto win32 builds using a custom update):

    Migrate all existing users of win64 nightly channel builds to the win32 nightly channel builds via automatic update.
    Continue to build win64 Nightly builds and updates on the nightly channel. Users who need the 64-bit builds will have to download it after the migration point (date TBD).
        Change the default first-run and update page for win64 builds to explain to users that they are not supported.
        Disable the crash reporter for win64 builds
        Enable click-to-play plugins by default in the win64 builds.
    Discontinue the win64 tests and on-checkin builds to reduce release engineering load. By default, do not generate win64 builds on try.
    win64 builds will be considered a tier 3ï build configuration.

Da dove arrivano alcuni bug che si verificano solo nelle versioni localizzate di Firefox (è un po' tecnico però):

The C programming language made what I consider a horrible design decision. Rather than having separate functions for locale-independent and locale-specific actions, C has a global function called setlocale to change the behavior of large sets of functions. It defaults to locale-independent behavior, but many applications such as Firefox choose to change it to the locale-specific behavior so they can get at the locale-specific behavior in some cases. (It's not clear to me what Firefox needs this for, though.) The setlocale function is global (and presumably not threadsafe); it changes the behavior of all threads. (There are platform-specific better ways (uselocale or _configthreadlocale, strtod_l or _strtod_l), but these don't appear to be easily portable.)

Mozilla Brings Back Firefox 64-bit for Windows

Mozilla ha deciso di riesumare lo sviluppo di Firefox a 64 bit. Per il momento non ci sono garanzie su una versione ufficiale del browser, e potrebbe finire tutto in un nulla di fatto.

Update: For clarification, the last sentence of this post references our actions to suspend inclusion of a TURKTRUST root certificate. There are currently two TURKTRUST root certificates included in Mozilla’s CA Certificate program. TURKTRUST had requested that a newer root certificate be included, and their request had been approved and was in Firefox 18 beta. However, due to the mis-issued  intermediate certificates, we decided to suspend inclusion of their new root certificate for now.

IE6 somehow managed to gain 0.01 percentage points

IE6 è la versione predefinita del browser in Windows XP che è ancora molto utilizzato (SP3 molto probabilmente oramai). Si consideri che molti si limitano, forse, a metterci le Patch di Microsoft Update e non lo aggiornano alla versione 7 o 8. (e comunque Windows Update propone IE7 nei computer che hanno superato il test sull'autenticità di Windows). La cosa non è molto strana, perciò. Windows Vista è stato un flop (e aveva già IE7 al suo interno). Windows 7 funzionava meglio ma in un periodo di crisi aggiornare il PC è stato un lusso che molti non si sono potuti permettere. (Capisco che molti piratassero Windows etc. per immorale ed illegale che fosse, ma il computer fisicamente o lo comperi o lo acquisti... "piratarlo" facendola franca è più difficile... )

Con un risultato di 12/100 nell'Acid3 Test ed un fallimento anche nell'Acid2 e considerando chissà quali falle non chiuse ci sono dentro l'uso è abbastanza sconsigliato.
