Hackers target the Internet Explorer browser. "US CERT (the US Computer Emergency Readiness Team), is advising people to ditch Internet Explorer and use a different browser after the latest security vulnerability in the software was exposed." --The Register, 6/28/04

Do note this important fact: The Wall Street Journal reported on June 28 that hackers had discovered holes in Internet Explorer that enabled them to monitor a user's behavior to steal passwords and banking information. Some of Internet Explorer's vulnerabilities and security holes are related to ActiveX controls, which allow hackers to load programs into your browser without your knowledge. The Netscape browser is safe against these approaches. And, unlike Internet Explorer, Netscape also makes it easy for you to view all your downloaded extensions so you can see if something is there that shouldn't be.

Other new features of Netscape 7.2:

    * Popup Window Controls block mouseover pop-ups and limit the number of popup ads when you set the popup windows control preference to "off."
    * Password Manager allows you to display saved passwords.
    * vCard support in Netscape Mail.
    * Palm Sync improvements.
    * Table editing controls in Composer.
    * New Macromedia Flash 7 plug-in for Windows.
    * Improvements in browser rendering speed, application start-up, and standards supports.

Continuo a domandarmi che senso abbia oggigiorno usare Netscape ; meglio usare Mozilla Suite!

Invece di fare un secondo browser potrebbeo dare una mano al team di mozilla per migliorare mozilla suite(o ancora meglio firefox)

Già... dopo un anno di silenzio escono con una serie di bugfix.
Un vero peccato, hanno ucciso un mostro sacro. Se AOL non ha intenzione di svilupparlo che lo ceda almeno ad altri.

AOL sa bene che la guerra dei browser è persa...
Solo un prodotto Open Source può avere qualche speranza di contrastare IE, dal momento che lo sviluppo è molto distribuito ed affidato a volontari....
Opera, a mio avviso, non risucirà a sfondare più di tanto a causa del suo essere shareware o adware....
Certo che, in effetti, se aiutassero Mozilla / Firefox...

AOL sa bene che la guerra dei browser è persa...

Non è una questione di guerra dei browser, ma esclusivamente tecnica. Dopo aver ottenuto dal tribunale la tecnologia di IE gratis per 7 anni, hanno deciso di liberare del tutto la Fondazione Mozilla e mandare a casa in pratica tutti gli sviluppatori NS. Ora MS ha annunciato che IE è finito, solo update di sicurezza, mentre le nuove versioni saranno destinate esclusivamente a funzionare con Longhorn, e quindi su una base installata iniziale pari a zero. AOL invece deve fornire un browser specializzato sia per Win attuali che per Mac, e per quando esce Longhorn il suo utilizzo gratis di IE sarà quasi finito: qual è la soluzione tecnica più logica? Far sopravvivere NS e Mozilla, in modo da avere un piano di emergenza di riserva...
